  Foodies Group June 2010


Our Melbourne Foodie Experimentators - Take Five took place on Monday, 31 May 2010. Its distinguishing feature was the sheer variety of dishes and produce on the menu.



We began our degustation evening with Salade Nicoise with Tomato Jelly, Olive Sorbet, and Potato Mousse. It was served with a matching glass of Next of Kin Chardonnay, Margaret River, WA, 2008.



The next dish on the menu was Kangaroo Tartare with Mustard and Honey Foam. Our matching drink was Pinot Noir Domaine Olivier, Bourgogne, France, 2008.



The first two dishes were rounded off with our first cleanser for the night, a Chilled Broccolini Soup.



The fourth dish to come out of the kitchen - and the first item in our 'mains' section - was Pork Cutlet with Poached Baby Pear and Calvados Sauce. It was matched with Pinor Noir Te Karainga, Montana, New Zealand, 2008.



It was followed by Chicken Drumstick with Olives and Preserved Lemon, which was accompanied by Pinot Blanc Les Petits Vignettes, Alsace, France, 2008.



The palate cleanser for this section - a little teaser to our sweet selection - was Yogurt Sorbet with Pistachio Fairy Floss.



The first dish from our sweet tooth selection - and the seventh dish for the night - was White Chocolate Mousse with Lemon Compote, with the recommended matching drop of Late Harvest Castle Rock Riesling, Great Western, Vic, 2008.




The evening was completed with Rose Water Bavarois with Carrot and Pomegranate, accompanied by a Berry Cocktail Surprise, which provided a fun end to an exciting and delicious evening!

Thank you once again to all who have joined us for yet another adventure in the culinary land. Thank you also to all my boys and girls at the front of house and in the kitchens at Le Bistro and L'Epicerie for making this night run well and smoothly.

The next event will take place in four weeks' time on Monday, 28 June 2010, at 7pm. Costs will be similar (44pp plus 31 for matching drinks) - to be confirmed shortly.
