The temperatures continued plunging outside. However, this did not deter the dedicated Foodies who gathered in the upstairs coziness of Le Bistro and L'Epicerie's dining rooms to embark on yet another culinary adventure. This was our sixth Melbourne Foodie Experimentations event, and it was great to see many familiar as well as new faces at both restaurants!



We continued our "winning" formula of progressive eight courses, which included two Cleanser dishes between each two subsequent courses. The evening began with a Crab Meat Salad, with avocado, cucumber, red capsicum, and mayonnaise dressing, and a matching glass of wine, Chateau Palene 2007 Bordeaux Blanc.



The second dish of the evening was Pork Dumpling on the bed of Tomato and Sesame Relish, accompanied with a local drop, Outlook Hill Blanc de Noir 2009 from Yarra Valley.




The selection of entrees was completed with Consomme de Canard.



The first dish in the "main" section - and the fourth dish of the night - was Veal avec Gnocchi et Sauce aux Champignons, which was accompanied by another local drop, Outlook Hill Pinot Noir Gold Leaf 2008 from Yarra Valley.



This was followed by Poulet Chasseur (literally translated as Hunter's Chicken), sauteed with mushrooms, and served with a sauce of white wine, shallots, tomatoes, and a swirl of brandy on a bed of wild rice. Outlook Hill Cabernet Merlot 2006 was selected to accompany the dish.



This selection of mains was completed with Passion Fruit Jelly.




Our sweet section was opened with the seventh dish of the night, Soupe de Cerises and Balsamic Ice Cream, matched with a Mini Kir.



The concluding dish of the night was Glace au Curry, Poire pochee et sauce au Chocolat, the "Poire Belle Helene" revisited, accompanied with a glass of Chapoutier Muscat de Rivesaultes.

The next Foodie Experimentation event will take place in four weeks' time, on Monday, 26 July, at 6:45 pm. Cost: 44pp (plus 31 for matching wines [optional, but highly recommended]).
