Welcome to our Third Degustation Event

Once again, over 50 adventurous diners have gathered at Le Bistro in Prahran and l'Epicerie in Elsternwick for the third culinary adventure on Monday, March 29.

Jacky, Kobi, Adrian and myself have carefully looked through your comments about the previous dinner. Once again, every dish was totally new, not available on our regular menu. However, we have reduced the number of courses to six, but introduced two "cleansers" to allow for a 'palate break' between each two subsequent courses.

We began our evening with Carpaccio de Boeuf - a beautifully delicate Beef Carpaccio topped with finely sliced Julienne of Pear and Walnut and drizzled with Balsamic Dressing and Truffle Oil. The dish was accompanied with a glass of a chilled 2008 Medhurst Rose from Yarra Valley.

Our second dish was a refreshing slice of caramelised Watermelon topped with Goats cheese, Basil, and oven-dried tomatoes, accompanied by a glass of Cidre Maison (house cider).

These first two dishes were followed by our first palate cleanser - champagne jelly served in a bowl with a single floating strawberry.

For the "main" section of out meal, our next dish was marinated lamb rack on a bed of smoked mash with lemon and thyme jus. The accompanying wine was a beautiful light red from Burgundy, Domaine Dupre Bourgogne Rouge.

Our fourth dish of the night was our special nod to Australia - and an expression of our "Frozzie" food philosophy: a filet of Kangaroo served on a bed of roasted vegetables and drizzled with blueberry jus. The dish was matched with a rich drop of Thomas Hardy "Imprimatur" Shiraz 2005 from Barossa Valley in South Australia.

These two dishes were followed by our second palate cleanser - Soupe de Concombre et Menthe - a chilled cucumber and mint broth.

Treats for those with a sweet tooth were next, starting with a Roasted Pineapple served with a deep-fried Creme Patissiere. The dessert was matched with a chilled glass of 2007 Castle Rock Late Harvest Riesling from Western Australia.

The last dish for the night was a contemporary take on a French classic - Pear Tarte Tatin with Blue Cheese ice cream; served with a shot of sparkling Poire Williams drink.

So, thank you all for joining us for Melbourne Foodie Experimentators - Take Three, and to all my boys and girls at Le Bistro and L'Epicerie for making this night run well and smoothly.

The next event will take place in four weeks' time, on Monday, 3 May 2010, 7pm.
Cost: 44pp (plus 31 for matching wine [optional but highly recommended]).
