Special Event - Chez Dominique
When: Monday, 12 April 2010, from 6 pm
Where: Le Bistro, 121 Greville Street, Prahran
Those who came to Rencontre autour d'un Verre in March and April would have met my delightful mum, Dominique. She was here in Melbourne from Bordeaux for a couple of months, and proposed a very special night for Le Bistro. On Monday, 12 April 2010, she has taken over the kitchen and together with my chefs came up with a sumptuous Bordelaise dinner. Even I was not allowed near the kitchens until the last minute (talk about deja vu!), so the details of the menu remained a secret even for me!!!
Dominique's night began with a glass of Soup de Champagne, followed by hors d'oeuvres, Pruneau et Bacon and St Jacques et Chorizo.
Our entrees consisted of verrine de betterave avec chevre frais, accompanied by a glass of Chateau Pallenne Bordeaux Blanc.
 
For plats de resistance we were treated to a choice of Grenadine de Veau avec capsicum coulis, radis confits, et zucchini tagliatelles; or Poivrons farcis et tians a la domi; or Lotte et Ecrevisses a l'Americaine. The dishes were matched with choices of Domaine Laroche Petit Chablis, Chapoutier Cotes du Rhone "Belleruche", and one of the newest wines in our cellar, Chateau la Gravelle Bordeaux.
   
We were glad we did not fill up before dinner and left our "dessert stomachs" empty, as the dessert choices were as plentiful as they were delicious!!! The guests had a choice of Les oeufs au lait et sauce caramel (Mamita's treat!!!), Croustade aux pommes et pruneaux; Charlotte au Chocolat et creme anglaise, or Chevre chaud et salade d'epinard. The hardiest of us stayed on, and enjoyed a glass of Sauterne, Armagnac, or Pommeau de Normandie.
My mum is off to France on Wednesday, but she has promised to come back and whip up another feast same time next year - and judging by the satisfied applause, we will have a full house once again! Merci Maman!!!
